“A child’s parents are not his makers but his guardians. They must protect him and have a deep concern for him like one who assumes a sacred trust. For their exalted mission, a child’s parents should purify the love that nature has implanted in their hearts and they should strive to understand that this love is the conscious expression of a deeper sentiment that should not be contaminated by self-interest and sloth.”
– Maria Montessori; The Secret of Childhood.
Parents are partners in the educational process. Parents are the primary teachers in a child’s life therefore the more cooperation exists between the Montessori teachers and the parents, the more the child is likely to benefit. There must be alignment between practices at home and in school when it come to the child.
Parent Education Classes:
Montessori education is usually very different from what most adults experienced as children. Montessori classrooms are run differently and it is important that parents understand and value the differences between the Montessori approach and other approaches to education and adjust their expectations accordingly.
At the beginning of every school year we will hold a full day workshop for new parents of the school and this serves to provide an overview of the Montessori journey from beginning to end.
During each term, parents will attend one hands-on session which will focus on what your child is doing in a particular area of the curriculum.
Our Parent Education classes are therefore designed to equip parents with the knowledge and skills to optimize their child’s development. Classes hold on weekday evenings or weekends.
